The following instructions were made specifically to help you
get your computer ready for your first day of school. Please go
through this list step by step and you will be shown what software
to remove from your computer, what software to download and how
to configure everything on your computer. It will be easy if you
follow each step. If you have any questions please call Choice
2000 at 951.940.5700 and we will be happy to
help you!
Important:
We highly recommend that you use Internet Explorer
as your web browser. Other browsers such as AOL, Firefox or Netscape
tend to be less user friendly with our online school.
Recommendation: Please print out this
page of instructions before you begin. That way you have a paper
reference which will make things easier.

Uninstall any instances of Java that are on your computer:
1.
Click on your Start menu button.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Click on Add or Remove Programs. You will
see the the Add or Remove Programs window pictured here.
4. Locate any instances of Java. If you see any,
click on it to highlight it and then click the Change/Remove
button. If you see more than one instance of Java, make sure to
remove all of them before continuing.
6. You will now see the Java uninstall window. Choose to uninstall
and then click the Next button.
7. Java will now uninstall. It will take a few moments and then
you will see it disappear from the list.
8. When you are done uninstalling Java you can can close the Add
or Remove Programs window and then restart your computer.
9. After your computer restarts then continue with section 2 of
this guide.

Install
Java 5:
Java is the engine under the hood of our online classroom system.
In order for your online classes to function properly you will
need to have a specific version of Java installed on your computer,
which we have here for you to download.
1.
Click on the Java icon to the right to begin downloading Java
5 onto your computer.
2. Click the Run button to continue downloading.
Older versions of windows will offer you the Open
button instead. If you see the Open button and not the Run button,
just click Open.
3. When it is done downloading, another window will appear asking
you if you want to Run it. Click the Run button.
If you don't see this Run button, it's okay, it will still install
correctly.
4. Important: If your firewall gives you an alert window
at this point, tell it to always allow access so that
Java can continue to install.
5. Click the Next button to begin the installation.
6. Select the option for I agree to the terms in the
license agreement and then click the Next button.
7. Select Typical as your setup type and then
click the Next button.
8. Java will now install on your computer.
9. When you see the Finish button, click Finish.
10. At this point you may be asked if you want to restart your
computer. If you see a window asking you this, click the No
button.
11. Now we will configure Java so that it does not auto update.
This will prevent it from changing to a different version of
Java that does not work well with your online classes.
12. Click your windows Start menu button.
13. Click on Control Panel.

You want to view your control panel in Classic View
so that you can see the Java icon. If you are
viewing your control panel in category view it will look like
this picture and you will need to click on the Switch
to Classic View link on the left side (circled in red).

When you are in Classic View, your control panel will look like
the picture here.
16. Next, locate the Java icon in the Control
Panel (circled in red) and double click it.
17. The Java window will appear.
18. Click on the Update tab on the upper left
of the window (circled in red).
19. Uncheck the option that says Check for Updates
Automatically (circled in red).
20 . Click the OK button at the bottom of the
window (circled in red).
Install QuickTime:
QuickTime is necessary to view archived classes. Without QuickTime
your computer will not be able to play archives properly.
1. Next we will install QuickTime. Go back to the Choice 2000
Tech Support page and then click on QuickTime
in the School
Downloads section..
2. Click the Run button. Older versions of
windows will offer you
the Open button instead. If you see the Open
button and not
the Run button, just click Open.
3 . When it is done downloading, another window will appear
asking
you if you want to Run it. Click the Run button.
If you don't see
this Run button, it's okay, it will still install correctly.
4.
The Quicktime installer will now appear. Click the OK
button.
5. Click the Next button.
6. Click the Yes button to agree to the license
agreement.
7. Click Next.
8. Quicktime will now begin to install. This step may take a
minute or two.
9.
Click the Finish button.
10.
When you see this window, click the No Thanks
button.
11.
You will now see a new QuickTime icon on the lower right of
your screen, next to your clock. Right-click on the QuickTime
icon and select QuickTime Preferences.
12.
The QuickTime Settings window will appear. Click on the Advanced
tab on the upper right.
13.
From the Transport Setup pull-down menu, select Custom...
14.
The Streaming Transport window will appear. In the Transport
Protocol pull-down menu, select HTTP. Then
make sure the Port ID is set to 80. Then click
the OK button.
15.
At the bottom of the window, un-check the checkbox labelled
Install QuickTime icon in system tray. Then
click the OK button.
Install Questionmark Secure:
Questionmark Secure is the software necessary to take your online
tests. It is very important that you have this installed on
your computer before taking tests. If you don't have this installed
your tests will not function properly.
1.
Click on the Questionmark Secure icon to the right to begin
downloading it onto your computer.
2. Click the Run button to continue downloading.
Older versions of windows will offer you the Open
button instead. If you see the Open button and not the Run button,
just click Open.
3. When it is done downloading, another window will appear asking
you if you want to Run it. Click the Run button.
If you don't see this Run button, it's okay, it will still install
correctly.
4.
The
installer will begin to run and eventually you will see this
screen.
5. Click the Next button to continue.
6. Click the Yes button to agree to the license
agreement.
7. Click the Next button.
8. Click the Next button again.
9.
Click the Finish button pictured here and you
are all done installing.
10.
Important: The first time you attempt
to take a test in Perception, you may receive a firewall security
alert similar to the one pictured here. If you do receive an
alert like this, it is simply notifying you that Questionmark
Secure is trying to use the internet and it needs to you to
either Permit or Block access for it. Please find the option
to Permit and then choose to Always
use this action. That way your computer will always
know that the Questionmark Secure software is always okay to
use the internet. Then your will be able to take your tests
in the future with no problems.

Begin
the Horizon Wimba Setup Wizard:
The Horizon Wimba Setup Wizard is a checklist to make sure your
computer has all the proper software installed on your computer
correctly. Once you make it through all the steps in the wizard,
you will be ready to enter class.
1.
Click here
to launch the wizard. You will see a new window that looks like
the one pictured here.
2. Click the Next button to continue.
3. The wizard will now test pop-up blockers. Please turn off
all pop-up blockers you have on your computer. It is possible
to setup a pop-up blocker so that it blocks everything except
the school's website. Please contact Choice 2000 tech support
to set this up.
4.
The wizard will eventually get to this screen. When you see
this, click the Next button. After a moment,
a security warning window will appear. When you see this, click
the Always button. That tells your computer
to always use the proper software to run your online classrooms.
5. Important: At this point in the wizard
you may receive a firewall security alert similar to the one
pictured here. If you do receive an alert like this, it is simply
notifying you that Horizon Media (the software that makes audio
work in your online classes) is trying to use the internet and
it needs to you to either Permit or Block access for it. Please
find the option to Permit and then choose to
Always use this action. That way your computer
will always know that the Horizon Media software is always okay
to use the internet. Then your will be able to hear audio in
your classes in the future with no problems.
6.
On this screen, you will hear an audio prompt that your audio
is working. When you hear the audio prompt, click the Next
button to continue.
7.
On this screen, your audio control bar will load up and begin
to test your audio. Wait a moment for it to load up and then
click the TALK button to make sure it works
properly. If the TALK button turns orange when you click it,
then you know it is working properly. Now click the Next
button.
8.
This step will test to make sure QuickTime has been installed
properly and it will test music as well as animation. When you
hear the music and see the animation, click the Next
button.
9.
This is the last screen of the wizard. Click the Finished!
button the complete the wizard.
10. When you have successfully finished the Horizon Wimba Wizard
your
computer is ready for school!

Login
Instructions:
Your Username is your Student ID number
and your password is the last
four digits of your Social Security Number. This applies to
Blackboard and
Perception.
How To Get Into Your Online Class:
1.
On the school's website, click on the Blackboard login link
(circled in red).
2.
Then click the Login button on the left side.
3.
Now enter your username (your student ID number)
and your password (the last four digits of your social
security number). Then click the Login
button.

Next refer to your schedule print out to see which class you
should be entering into. Then click on that course in the My
Courses section on the right side.
3.
Click on the Live Classroom link on the left
side of the screen.
4. You will now see a list of items listed. The very top item
on the list is your classroom. All the other things listed are
Archives (recordings of previous class sessions). To get into
class, click this icon
which is located all the way to the right of your classroom
name (the top item on the list). This will launch your classroom
window and get you into class.
